Hi and Welcome to Talasbuan,

Not far from the edge of the mountain, lies Talasbuan fäbod. For about 80 years it stood empty before we decided to give new life to the old place. The area has been a place filled with fäbodar and throughout the years the cowbells have chimed through these forests.

Our journey together started at 2011 when we first met at a school for traditional knowledge. After that year, in 2012, we moved into a small cottage at an old fäbod, but just for a while when we tried to figure out what to do next. Eventually we decided to stay and make something out of it because we really liked the place and saw its potential.

The to-do list is long, build the new log house, because currently we live in 15 square meters, a cheese cellar and a root cellar, the creamery, the kitchen garden and so on. We have sheep, chickens, pigs, rabbits, cats and dogs, In time cows and maybe goats. We are harvesting, making hay for the animals and going for the self-sufficient life.

The 1st of February 2017 we published our first vlog, and have been making them since. We can combine Mathias love for filming and photo with all our projects and our wish to show people what we are doing and thinking. The dream is to be able to stay at our place and not have to go somewhere else and work for money.

Welcome to join us on our journey,

Tova and Mathias

WHAT ARE A FÄBOD?

THERE IS NO GOOD ENGLISH WORD FOR FÄBOD. A FÄBOD IS A PLACE WITH A FEW HOUSES (A LIVING SPACE, A COW/GOATSHED, A CHEESE CELLAR AND A COOKING HOUSE) OR A TINY SUMMER-VILLAGE IN THE FORESTS AND MOUNTAINS AWAY FROM THE VILLAGES. THE CATTLE’S FEED COULD BE SPARSE AND THE VILLAGERS WANTED ALL WINTERFEED AROUND THE VILLAGE TO BE SAVED. SO THEY HERDED THE CATTLE TO THE FORESTS AND MOUNTAINS TO LET THE CATTLE GRAZE THERE INSTEAD, AND THEREFORE SAVE THE FOOD IN THE VILLAGES FOR WINTER.

We are making vlogs that we publish at Youtube. We thought it was a fun idea to start making videos and show you all what we were doing out here in the forests and so far we have made more than twenty videos. We are filming all our projects, our animals and the everyday life at our off-grid homestead.

Follow the link below to visit our channel at Youtube, or take a look at some videos by clicking on the “Vlogs” tab in the menu above.

Recently we started a Patreon account, basically Patreon are a platform where people can subscribe for a monthly donation for differens creators if they like what the creators are doing. For example If you like our vlogs and want to support our work with the videos and our homestead you can choose to become a monthly donator.

You decide how much you want to give for an episode and everytime we post a new video that sum will be donated to us. This means you only donate when we make new vlogs. You just click the button "Become a patreon" and choose the amount you want to donate per episode.

You connect your card or you can use your PayPal account, its perfectly safe. You can also make a limit, as for now we are making 2-3 vlogs/month but if we start posting vlogs more often you can set the limit and choose how many vlogs per month you want to support.

Follow the link below to check out our Patreon page.
